5 Practices That Will Transform Your Life!

Self-care is crucial for maintaining optimal health and well-being.

I want here to explore various self-care practices that anyone can incorporate into their daily routine, to promote physical, mental, and emotional health.

For example, practicing daily gratitude, and setting aside time for inner reflection through meditation, will not only help us build resilience, increase productivity, and find greater satisfaction in our personal and professional lives, they will also help to connect us with REALITY.

Allow me to explain

Picking Fruit From The Shadow Of The Tree - A Sufi Tale

Do we confuse our personal thinking and feeling processes for reality?

A metaphor the Sufis use to illustrate the human condition, namely how we confuse our psychological reality for the real, tells of a man trying to pick fruit from the shadow of a tree.

Not matter the yield he can not satisfy his desire for fulfilment. He need but turn a little to the right or left and he will find true fulfilment.

Point being:

The psychological constructed reality through our thoughts, feelings, and perceptions, is the shadow of the real. Regular meditation can help to reconnect us with the REAL.

These 5 Practices Have Withstood The Test Of Time And Can Revolutionise Your Life

I’d like now to share with you five practices that have revolutionised my life over time, and that can do the same for you. I’ll also provide tips on how you can incorporate them into your busy lifestyle.

The Five Master Practices

  1. Daily Gratitude: Cultivating an attitude of gratitude is the most underestimated practice there is. Regular practice has been shown to improve mental health and overall well-being, releasing the mid’s fixation on past and future, into the Here & Now.

Do this: Take a moment each day and night to find 5 thins you are grateful for. It could be your pillow, your warm bed, your safety, a satisfying meal, a supportive friend, your great bank account, anything! What’s important is that you are actively engaging your mind to see what is available instead of what is missing.

In time this unassuming practice will cause a fundamental shift in the way you pay attention, allowing the present to reveal to you its gifts and opportunities.

  2. Meditation: Meditation is the master practice. Setting aside time each day, evening or morning, or whenever, for tuning your attention inward, will have tremendous ramifications on your life. Apart from the remarkable spiritual benefits, research has shown that even a few minutes of meditation will have significant impact on your mental and emotional well-being, including reducing stress, increasing focus, improving emotional regulation, and so much more.

Do This: Find somewhere quietly where you can sit undisturbed. Take a few deep breaths to prime your mind, then simply land your attention at the area of your nostrils, where a man has a moustache, and observe the fact of breathing, sensing the inhale and exhale as they occur. Don’t alter your breathing, just watch without involvement.

  3. Regular Exercise: It’s amazing to me that people either overdo exercise or dont exercise at all. The Chinese have a saying: one hundred steps after meal you’ll live to one hundred years old. Regular physical activity is essential for maintaining both physical and mental health, and has been shown to reduce stress, improve mood, and increase cognitive function.

Do This: Take a 10 mintue or longer brisk walk before or after work, or even during lunch. Alternately climb stairs instead elevators, taking every opportunity that presents itself to move. Alternately, join a gym and convince a friend to join you for extra inspiration.

  4. Positivity Journaling: I myself have kept a daily journaling practice for over 35 years, since reading Gibran’s The Prophet, at 16. I was so impressed by his language that I wanted to emulate him. Consequently, I have been exploring topics pertaining to the human drama ever since.

Do This: Record just one positive experience/achievements that happened to you at the end of each day. Keep it simple. The benefits of this alone will have marked, positive influence on your mindset, cultivating neural connections associated with happiness and contentment.

  5. Acts of Kindness: This is by far my favourite. David Hawkins, the enlightened master of recent times, when asked if he could recommend just one spiritual practice, without hesitation he said, just be Kinder. Performing acts of kindness, whether large or small, can have a profound impact on your own well-being and the well-being of others.

Do This: Look for an occasion to do just one act of kindness daily, no matter how small of big, even patting a dog, or picking up a piece of garbage, counts. This altruistic behaviour will improve mood, enhance self-esteem, and even contribute to a longer, healthier life.

Conclusion

Embracing daily gratitude, meditation, regular exercise, positivity journaling, and acts of kindness can transform your life. These timeless practices not only enhance well-being but also foster a profound connection with reality. Include them into your daily self-care routine and cultivate resilience, focus, and a positive mindset, allowing you to thrive.
